Armstrong And Getty On UNICEF Campaign For Aerial Bombing Victims
Now the shocking story of the Unicef fundraising campaign. Are you familiar with the smurfs?
I'm barely familiar. It was a cartoon right?
Unicef is running a campaign in Europe that shows an aerial attack on a smurf village that shows the whole village except for baby smurf getting wiped out.
Cut to audio of the commercial, and only baby smurf being left crying over the remains of her family.
The blue skinned cartoon clan are victims of a bombing campaign. It's intended to jumpstart fundraising for bombing victims in Africa. Says UNICEF, "We could have shown real life images of children injured in Iraq...."
These countries that are having battles in Africa are not planes dropping bombs, that's what America does. How about the smurfs being machetted, or being forced into service and having their hands going off. Or how about a car bomb going off and killing the smurfs...
Then they mention IRaq... It's a shot at the united states. What does aerial bombing have to do with Burundi?
It's currently broadcast only after 9pm in Belgium. I am not sure I like this trend. Are we going to see Scooby Do dying of aids? Are we going to see bugs bunny starving? The carrot in the thought bubble, but he dies because he has no food? Flies buzzing around his head?
I'm trying to think if our beloved childhood cartoons used in such a way. I guess you could have Fat Albert clutch his heart and die of a heart attack because he is morbidly obese.
"Hey hey hey, it's an infarction"
Now they're dead. And the baby is weeping over their corpses.
Whose idea was this? I'm disturbed by this!
