Confusional Arousals

Sometimes this is called excessive sleep inertia, or sleep drunkenness. Most people feel a slowness when they awake, but this disorder is when this slowness is greatly exagerated. Individuals with confusional arousal react slowly to commands, they may have difficulty understanding what they are asked, and often they have problems with short term memory. This problem typically occurs when the individual is awakened from a deep sleep during the first part of the night.

This disorder is a type of arousal disorder, which is in the group of parasomnias.
