Risk of Eating Cicadas Considered Acceptible
Graduate Student Thinks People Will Survive Eating Cicadas
Subjects > Animals > Insects > Cicada
According to Jenna Jadin, graduate student in entomology at the University of Maryland in College Park, and author of "Cicada-Licious: Cooking and Enjoying Periodical Cicada", while there is a risk of any food harvested in urban areas, it is not out of line with other risks that people routinely accept.
According to Jadin, "Given that it's likely people won't be feasting on cicadas, just eating a few of them, even if they have [absorbed] chemicals it's no worse than eating fish from the Great Lakes. If [people] survived that, they'll probably survive eating a plateful of cicada."
