Psychophysiological Insomnia Psychophysiological insomnia concerns the association of going to bed with emotions that prevent sleep, such as being afraid fo going to sleep. Individuals with this problem react to psychologically stressful situations with bodily tension or other physical complains such as upset stomach and headache.People with this disorder are often very focused on their sleep problems, and this intense focus on the sleep problems is one of the things that interferes with sleep. In very extreme situations, sometimes electroshock therapy is used to try and break the cycle of not sleeping because of worry about not sleeping. This condition is an intrinsic sleep disorder, meaning that it comes from within the body. It is a type of dyssomnia. |
