| | MySleepCenter | | Restless Legs Syndrome Individuals with this syndrome have uncomfortable sensations in the legs just before falling asleep. These uncomfortable sensations are described as tingling, itching, crawling, pulling or aching. Moving the legs stops these sensations, but shortly after stopping the movement, the uncomfortable feeling return. This can make falling asleep very difficult, and severe insomnia can be the result. Individuals with this syndrome often accumulate very large sleep debts from many consecutive nights of this problem. Finally the overwhelming sleepiness allows the patient to sleep. But when enough of the sleep debt is relieved, the sensations will again interfere with normal sleep. This condition is an intrinsic sleep disorder, meaning that it comes from within the body. It is a type of dyssomnia. | |
