Plan Biblically

Need to think of the church as a fellowship or community of faith, a slumbering giant to be awakened.

"The work of God in this earth can never be finished until the men and women comprising our church membership rally to the work, and unite their efforts with those of ministers and church officers" (Christian Service, p. 68)

Invite members to work for the Lord, those who do get closest to the Lord. Members who work for the church stay in the church. The Bible plan is that all should have a work to do.

Church planning centered around "Spiritual Gifts":

• 1. Study Spritual Gifts
  • Members receive gifts by surrendering to and empowering by the Holy Spirit.
  • [Summary Of The Doctrine Of Spiritual Gifts]?Create All members have spiritual gifts, and variety of gifts makes up the whole light of Christ in the same way the prism shows the component colors of white light.
• 2. Help members identify their gifts
  • Spiritual gifts ministry helps members fullfil their own needs for involvment, commitment, and successful ministry in the church
  • Spiritual Gifts Inventory - Available from Institute of Church and Ministry at Andrews University, or possibly from the Department of Church Ministries in the local Union, Mission, or Conference Elder's Resources Guide
• 3. Organize church around ministries that use the congregations gifts and also minister to the needs of the community.
• 4. Train members in their chosen ministries
  • God places those with gifts of leadership in the church to prepare and train the rest of the church membersjip for effective ministry Eph 4
  • "Every church should be a training school for Christian workers. It's members should be taight how to give Bible readings, how to conduct and teach Sabbath school classes, how best to help the poor and to care for the sick, how to work for the unconverted. There should be schools of health, cooking schools, and classes in various lines of Christian help work. There should not only be teaching, but actual work under experienced instructors." (The Ministry of Healing, p. 149)
  • "The greatest help that can be given to our people is to teach them to work for God, and to depend on Him, not on the ministers" (Testimonies, vol. 7, p. 19)

Plan Annually

• Owned goals - Goals set by the whole church. Begins with the pastor and church board, then open ended options taken to a business meeting.
• The Planning Agenda
  • Evaluation - Review the achievements of the previous year
    • Congregation should ask "What are we doing?" "Where are we going?" "Where do we want to go?" "Are we fully using the unique spiritual gifts of our congregation?"
  • Next year planning
    • Evangelism - How? What kinds?
    • Youth
    • Facilities
    • Campaigns
    • Schedule
