Sleep Paralysis

Sleep paralysis is a normal part of REM sleep. It keeps the individual from acting out their dreams. But if the sleep paralysis happens outside of sleep, then it is a disorder. It usually happens just befroe falling asleep, or just after waking up. It can last for several minutes, but then it disappears.

Some scientists believe that cases of "alien abduction" could be undiagnose episodes of sleep paralysis, combined with hypnagogic hallucinations.

This disorder is a type of parasomnia usually associated with REM sleep.
